HPMC has extremely strong water-retaining capacity, significantly delaying water evaporation in mortar, ensuring full cement hydration, improving mortar strength and adhesion, and avoiding hollowing, cracking, and other problems.
HPMC can significantly increase the viscosity and consistency of mortar, improve workability, reduce sagging and dripping, and improve construction efficiency.
HPMC can enhance the bond between mortar and substrate, improve the firmness of tiles, stone, and other decorative materials, and reduce the risk of falling off.
HPMC can form a uniform and dense protective film on the mortar surface, improving the impermeability and weather resistance of mortar.
HPMC has good compatibility with cement, gypsum, lime, and other cementitious materials and can be compounded with various admixtures.
HPMC uses natural cellulose as raw material. It is non-toxic, odorless, biodegradable, and meets green building material standards.
Improves water retention and adhesion, extends open time, reduces tile hollowing and falling off, and is suitable for bonding various tiles and stone.
Improves workability, improves scraping smoothness, reduces cracking, enhances adhesion, and is suitable for interior and exterior wall putty.
Improves water retention and workability of gypsum mortar, retards setting time, improves construction performance, and is suitable for gypsum plastering and gypsum self-leveling.
Improves water retention and workability of mortar, reduces bleeding and segregation, and improves construction efficiency and project quality.
Used as thickener, dispersant, and film-forming agent, improving coating stability, workability, and film performance. Suitable for interior and exterior wall coatings and stone-like paint.
Used as pharmaceutical excipients, food additives, and daily chemical raw materials for tablet coating, sustained-release preparations, food thickening, cosmetics, etc.

Different application scenarios require HPMC of different viscosities. Tile adhesives generally use 40,000-100,000 mPa·s; putty powders use 100,000-200,000 mPa·s; gypsum mortars use 10,000-40,000 mPa·s; coatings use 5,000-20,000 mPa·s. The specific viscosity should be determined by testing according to the formula and construction requirements. We can provide technical support.
The dosage of HPMC varies by application. Tile adhesives generally use 0.2%-0.5%; putty powders 0.3%-0.8%; gypsum mortars 0.1%-0.3%; masonry and plastering mortars 0.05%-0.2%; coatings 0.3%-1.0%. The specific dosage should be determined by testing according to formula design and performance requirements.
HPMC (hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose) and CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose) are both cellulose ethers, but their properties differ significantly. HPMC has better water retention, alkali resistance, and thermal stability than CMC, making it suitable for cement-based and gypsum-based building materials. CMC has good thickening and adhesion but poor alkali resistance and easily degrades in alkaline environments. HPMC is generally recommended for construction mortars.
