GRC Spraying Machine Production Process and Operation Key Points

1. Production Process Flow

  1. Mold preparation: Check if the mold surface is clean and smooth, apply special mold release agent to ensure smooth demolding and surface quality. For complex shape molds, check if mold splicing is tight to prevent slurry leakage.
  2. Mortar preparation: Weigh cement, quartz sand, silica fume and other raw materials according to the mix ratio, first dry mix for 2 minutes to mix evenly, then add water and water reducer, mix for 3-5 minutes until the mortar is uniform and fluidity meets requirements (flow spread 300-400mm).
  3. Fiber preparation: Check if glass fibers are dry and free of clumps, adjust fiber cutting length (generally 10-30mm) to ensure smooth fiber delivery without blockage.
  4. Spray forming: Start the spraying machine, first spray a layer of pure mortar (thickness 2-3mm) as the face layer, then simultaneously spray mortar and glass fibers in layers, each layer 3-5mm thick, until the design thickness is reached. During spraying, the nozzle should be perpendicular to the mold surface, 0.5-1.0m away, moving uniformly to ensure uniform thickness.
  5. Roll compaction: After each layer is sprayed, use a roller or scraper to roll and compact, removing air bubbles, ensuring full bonding of fibers and mortar, improving density and surface quality.
  6. Surface finishing: After reaching the design thickness, perform surface finishing to ensure the surface is flat and smooth. For components requiring special texture, embossing or sandblasting can be performed on the surface.
  7. Curing and demolding: After forming, cure components in natural environment for 24-48 hours (temperature ≥15°C), demold when strength reaches 50%-70% of design strength. After demolding, continue moist curing for 7-14 days to ensure continuous strength development.
  8. Post-treatment: Demolded components undergo post-treatment processes such as patching, grinding, cleaning, waterproofing, then surface coating or dyeing according to design requirements.

Compared to hand plastering which requires skilled workers, spraying machine reduces worker skill requirements and improves quality stability.
What is the Service Life of GRC Elements? Will They Age?
Design service life of GRC elements exceeds 50 years, and under normal use and maintenance conditions, actual service life can reach 50-80 years. GRC aging problem is mainly related to glass fiber corrosion in alkaline cement environment. Measures to prevent aging: (1) Use alkali-resistant glass fiber (AR glass fiber) with ZrO₂ content ≥16.5%; (2) Use low-alkali sulfoaluminate cement or add fine mineral materials to reduce pore alkalinity; (3) Add polymer emulsion to improve material density and prevent water penetration; (4) Water-repellent surface treatment for finished products. Through these measures, GRC element service life over 50 years can be ensured.
What Surface Effects Can GRC Elements Achieve?
Surface effects of GRC elements are very rich and can be customized according to design requirements, mainly including: (1) Bare concrete effect: smooth surface, with simple concrete texture, natural gray or colored; (2) Natural stone effect: can replicate textures of sandstone, limestone, marble, granite through custom molds; (3) Wood effect: can replicate natural wood texture, including grain and knots; (4) Metal effect: can achieve metal surface effects such as copper and cast iron through special coatings; (5) Perforated and relief effect: can achieve embossed and perforated decorations of different depths through mold design; (6) Sand texture effect: rough surface with sand texture, suitable for modern architectural styles. Various color effects can also be achieved by adding inorganic mineral pigments.
What are the Installation Methods for GRC Elements? Is Installation Complex?
GRC element installation methods mainly include: (1) Dry hanging method: embed stainless steel hangers or back bolts in GRC elements, connect to main structure through metal keels, the most common method for exterior facades, featuring high flexibility and easy maintenance; (2) Adhesive method: glue GRC elements to structure using structural adhesives, suitable for small elements and interior decoration; (3) Mechanical fixing method: fix GRC elements directly with screws and bolts, suitable for heavy elements and high-rise facades; (4) Mixed method: combine dry hanging and adhesive for higher stability. Installation complexity depends on element size and shape. For standard panels, a professional installation team can complete 20-50m² per day. It is recommended to perform structural calculation and installation detail design before construction, and ensure the installation team has GRC installation experience.
